Our history

1965

Sisma was born

Sisma was born in Mantua thanks to the entrepreneurial spirit of the Lotti family, who started their business by distributing sponges and toothpicks. From an encounter with a Japanese wood merchant, the production of toothpicks began. Thus, Samurai was born: the unique and original toothpick.

Today, it holds the largest market share in Italy.

1995

Turning point year. Sisma acquired Cottonord, a production plant in Bollate (MI) and the Farmacotone brand, becoming Europe’s largest manufacturer in cotton processing. Production diversification begins: cotton buds are joined by make-up remover cotton pads, cotton balls and medical cotton wool.

Sisma strengthened its leadership in the market of toothpicks
and skewers with the acquisition of Ivalda S.p.A, an Italian company specialising in the distribution of items such as toothpicks, skewers, straws, under the brands
